Linear Scan Camera VSLC-1

Linear scan cameras allow to determine the placement, width and surface of work parts moving along the conveyor line and count the number of production units randomly situated on the conveyor.

Linear scan camera VSLC-1 is an electrooptical measurement device that serves to determine the placement, width and surface of work parts moving along the conveyor line and count the number of end product units randomly situated on the conveyor. Data exchange between the camera and methods computer is executed with the help of a local network of the Ethernet 802.3 type. The data gathered is used to calculate technological parameters for manufacturing and to collect statistical data.

Functionally, the camera consists of

  • linear optical sensor (2048 pixels);
  • microcontroller;
  • local Ethernet 802.3 network slave.

In order to create a picture the linear sensor uses a wide-angle lens (e.g. MC Mir-20M). The frames from the linear sensor are sent to the microcontroller where it is determined for every pixel whether it belongs to the background or to the plate (depending on the brightness). Then all the necessary parameters, such as placement, width of a plate, etc., are read according to the program. If the conveyor speed data is sent directly to the camera, the calculation of plate areas can also be executed.

Due to using the linear sensor with a large number of pixels we can achive a high accuracy of calculations, i.e., if the width of visible area is 1 mm, the width of a pixel is nearly 0,5 mm.

Implementation

This linear scan camera has been successfully used for several years already to calculate printed-circuit board areas on the conveyors at the Uniplate horizontal galvanic lines manufactured by ATOTECH (Germany). The received data is sent to SCADA system that controls the technological process and is used to collect statistical data and calculate the technological parameters for composition and dosage of chemical solutions used in PCB etching.
